Crunchy, delicious and mutty peanut are often of the popular oil seeds known since ancient times. It is a small size fruit pod of plant species in the legume belonging to the fabaceae family the genus “Arachis hypogeal”.

Peanut is a small annual herb growing up to a foot above the ground band was first acculturated in the valley of Paraguay and from where it spread to the rest of the world.

All part of peanut plant can be used through are often viewed as unhealthy because of high fats. It can be consumed as roasted seeds or in butter form, oil. The seeds contain 25 to 32% of protein and 42 to 52% oil. A pond of peanut is high in food energy and provides approximately the same energy value as a pound of beef.

Peanut can also be used for non-food products such as soaps, medicines, cosmetics and lubricants. The pods serve as high fiber roughage in livestock feed and are also used in manufacturing of particle board.

Peanut are very good source of monounsaturated fats [heart- healthy Mediterranean diet] a big ally for a healthy heart. It is a good source of vitamin E, niacin, foliate, protein manganese and reduces cardiovascular disease it helps to prevent gallstones and lowers the risk of weight gain; it is rich in oxidants as many fruits like black berries, apples, carrots etc
